o8's deal is simple: the whole open-source app is free forever with the model subscriptions and keys you already use. There is no trial or reduced product tier.

Free, with your existing model access

The governance gate, the Engineering Brain, multi-repo fleet orchestration, the canvas, mobile on your own network, and basic voice all ship free. It can stay free because the coding work runs through your existing model subscriptions or keys. Basic voice needs no keys either: dictation uses on-device speech, and o8 falls back to the built-in macOS voice.

Each installation also gets a limited hosted model allowance for o8 chat. It is provisioned on demand when you first invoke an o8-hosted model and does not require sign-in. As serving gets cheaper and the model improves, we intend to keep improving that free path. The autonomous coding workers still run through the CLI subscriptions or keys you bring.

Free is never the crippled version. Pro pays for managed infrastructure and supported customization; the source stays open if you want to build your own path.

(One honest note: today's release still assumes you have a Claude or Codex subscription to power the autonomous coding loop. The free hosted allowance covers o8 chat; it does not replace the worker runtime subscriptions yet.)

Pro — managed and supported

If you'd rather the managed essentials be instant and hands-off, optional Pro funds the build and turns on our highest daily fair-use limits. During the first 250-member cohort, Pro is a one-time purchase and includes permanent Founding Operator status:

• Managed essentials, instant — our most generous daily fair-use limits for a fast Brain, automatic dictation polish, and premium speech-to-text, included for life.
• Early access — Pro sits a release channel ahead, so experimental features land there first.
• Maximum Canvas customization — Pro is the supported path for custom photos, WebGL shader scenes, ASCII, and dithered backgrounds as those tools ship, without maintaining a fork. The built-in backdrop library ships today; those custom background tools are still arriving.
• Founding Operator status — the first 250 Pro members receive a numbered badge and a place on the founders wall.

A couple of things stay bring-your-own-key for everyone, with or without Pro — premium third-party voices and speech-to-speech. And a few things are still coming: an off-network mobile relay and always-on cloud agents are direction, not today's feature set.
